Skill Development

Hey hey everyone! Britt here again! Before I start the main purpose of this post, I wanted to share some NSV (non-scale victories) that I have been really proud of lately. First, I ran my second ever 10K last Sunday! I finished in 1:20:15, which was a minute and 13 seconds faster than my first 10K! No it's not fast but I did it, beat my previous time and I'm proud of it! I have another thing that I'm super proud of right now but you might have to wait a little bit for me to make that announcement, so stay tuned! ;) And no, I'm still not pregnant so let's get that rumour out of the way :P Alright, so onto the main purpose of this post! I wanted to talk about a book I just finished. Honestly, this book has changed my life. I couldn't put it down. I made notes, put sticky notes on pages and really absorbed the messages within this book. A year ago, I wouldn't have even thought about reading this. Essentially, it is a "self help" book. I don't li...

Making the Team

Hello all! It's been a while since I made a post. The last time I posted, I described the beginning of my fitness journey from a medical scare, to people who inspire me, to challenge groups and my first real experience with Beachbody. Many people haven't had the chance to experience a challenge group first hand, so I wanted to dedicate this post to explaining what exactly a challenge group is! So as the name of the group says, it is a challenge group; a group with challenges. While the group itself is a full monthly challenge, there are many little challenges throughout the month. Let me explain this a little better. As I mentioned in my last post, my Beachbody coach, Sam, is someone that I've known for a very long time. She would contact me every few months to let me know that there was a new challenge starting. I kept declining and declining until I got to the point where I needed something, and someone, to help me refocus (not to mention that Beachbody was having a s...

Training Camp

Yesterday I wrote a post about the changes I've made in my life to take better control of myself and how I feel. One of the things that I mentioned, and could have talked forever about, was my health and fitness. In order to fully explain this part of my journey, we need to go back a couple years. Tuesday, June 23, 2015 was a rough day for me. I was just finishing up work at the Zoo and started to feel pretty sick. It started as feeling like really intense heartburn and just kept getting worse and worse. I remember this day well as we were just finishing up the cleaning and organization of a shed in preparation for summer camp to start. This would be my second year working as a program instructor at the zoo; a job I truly loved and will miss dearly. Thankfully, we ended up finishing early that day. I went straight home, took some Tums and laid down in bed and went to sleep. I woke up still feeling pretty sick but my "heartburn" ended up turning into blinding pains in my...

Changeup

In my last two posts I talked about identifying my struggles and then communicating and discussing those to the people who matter most in my life. It is one thing to talk to others about it and something completely different to face it head on with yourself. I probably should have taken the time to "discuss" everything with myself first to properly process everything but I honestly find it easier to face others than to face myself. So that was my next step. Self reflect and figure out where to go from here. There were a few things I knew I needed to change if I was going to take control of my life: Diet and Exercise Alcohol intake Outlook Interests Time Environment When I'd come home after a seemingly long or trying day at work, the last thing I want to do is go to the grocery store or cook anything. Enter Skip The Dishes!! I got really used to scrolling through the long list of restaurants to find something interesting, new, or familiar that sounded even a l...

Drafting Your Team

Yesterday I made my first post announcing and explaining my recent diagnosis of depression and anxiety. It was a long post but thank you to everyone who took the time to read it and to reach out. All of the messages and well wishes meant the world to me!! Even though I rambled quite a bit in my last post, I wanted to continue from where I left off. I briefly mentioned what I did after I found out but I think it is important to elaborate. Once my appointment was over, I felt a mix of emotions. I felt relieved, scared, confused. I went to my car, cried for a few moments, took a deep breath and went home. I knew what was coming next. I had to tell people. The psychologist I talked to gave me some great advice. She told me that I needed to tell those who are important to me so that I could develop a network of support. She recommended that when I was ready, I should reach out to a friend who I was 100% positive would be understanding and a good support for me and even find out if we co...

A Shootout Loss

As I sit here trying to come up with a clever title for my first post, I'm beginning to lose sight of why I decided to do this in the first place. Possibly because the reason I took the leap to actually do this is a difficult subject for me. It's me Brittany! Since I know that many people won't continue reading this to the end, yet there a lot of people I want to inform but have such little time, I'll state the reason I wanted to do this now. Here it goes.. as of May 26th, 2017 (one week ago today), I was diagnosed with severe depression and severe anxiety. And breathe. To start off, no I do not think that just because I put "fit" in my blog name I am suddenly some fitness expert or guru. I never actually thought I'd be one of those people who puts "fit" beside her name in any context. It is honestly just a play on words. fitBritt. Like fitbit. Get it? While I do not by any means consider myself an expert, I feel that I am on a journey for a he...
